Fiber Construction Jobs

Navigating the Construction Industry: What are fiber construction careers?

National OnDemand has a variety of divisions categorizing the positions we have available. Additionally, our divisions spearhead different areas of work, allowing us to provide full-turnkey solutions to our clients.

The Construction Division focuses on building out infrastructure projects for clients. This includes all of our provided services, including fiber, wireless, energy and technology. Construction involves many moving pieces, meaning that the number of people needed for a successful project can be great.

Safety, communication, consistency, collaboration and performance are the foundation

Our projects vary in shape and size, meaning the positions required for each project also change. However, some roles are consistently needed across the board. Although all are important, Aerial Lineman, Groundmen, Underground Operators and Underground Laborers are consistently a focal point in our projects as we continue to build fiber networks for our clients. Together, these four positions make up the main elements of the Construction Division. However, the work doesn’t start, nor stop, with them.

We prioritize safety in everything that we do. As part of this, we have Construction Safety Coordinators on site to ensure that everyone is following proper procedure while completing projects. They act as the team’s overwatch, regularly inspecting workers’ activity to uphold safety protocols.

We also have Construction Administrative Assistants that help keep all aspects of the project on track, tackling some of the logistics to assist the team. They act as a middle point for some of communication between different tiers of management.

As with most businesses, a majority of our supplies are stored in warehouses and laydown yards. These supplies need to be properly stored and categorized for the highest efficiency for our team members. This is where the roles of Warehouse Assistant and Warehouse Supervisor come in.

Within the Construction Division, we have an elite travel team that moves as needed to properly start new projects and train team members. They help navigate and spearhead efforts to expedite the process of launching new projects, helping our clients get the results they need as fast as possible.

After the network infrastructure has been constructed, homes and businesses need to be connected to utilize broadband access. Fiber Splicers take existing cabling and patch them together. They also provide maintenance to existing infrastructure in case connectivity issues arise. Fiber Splicer Supervisors ensure that splicers are safely performing their duties, as well as correctly splicing network cables together.

This is just a glimpse into the number of roles needed to provide our services to clients.

We train our employees to be the best

For some positions, previous experience or training is not required. We offer training programs for roles such as aerial linemen, underground operators, and fiber splicers that can turn anyone into an industry-leading telecommunications professional. These training programs also act as focal points on our investment into communities as we recruit and train members from the area and equip them with the tools they need to succeed long after the project is finished.

Our training programs are focused on teaching our new hires all of the techniques, strategies, and troubleshooting skills needed to go above and beyond, not just to complete the minimum. These programs are masterfully crafted to offer excellent information to our employees, making them feel more confident about completing their job, all while getting paid. We pay our employees to receive training, not the other way around.

Some positions, including but not limited to supervisor roles and long haul plow operators, do require varying levels of experience in the field.

Our team members get industry-leading benefits

Personal and professional qualifications, years of relevant experience, and even job location will affect the general pay range. Each individual’s salary is predicted to increase over time as the demand for our services continues to grow. Although the pay rate varies across positions in the Construction Division, our primary benefits do not. Just as we prioritize operational safety, we also make the health of our employees a focal point. We offer a variety of insurance for all of our employees, including health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance. We also provide the tools and apparel our team members need to complete their duties which lowers the initial out-of-pocket costs typically associated with onboarding in a new construction position.

Another great benefit is the Employee Assistance Program, also known as EAP. The EAP connects our employees with counselors, lawyers, and other professionals across many industries to provide counseling on debt, mental health, marriage, and more. The EAP is a completely free service that empowers our team members to better their situation.

We offer Paid Time Off at tiered levels based on an employee’s tenure. This means that an individual’s Paid Time Off increases depending on how many years they’ve been with the company. Our employees earn up to 18 days of PTO, and up to 6 paid holidays per year.

Depending on the position, we offer even more benefits for our field employees, including a company vehicle and fuel card. As the fuel market remains volatile, your daily cost to and from jobs won’t be. Additionally, many of our field positions receive a production bonus, meaning you can make even more for working hard.

Our Construction Division jobs are here to stay

Technology is evolving every day, making yesterday’s infrastructure obsolete. Everyone wants access to fast and reliable internet. The U.S. Senate passed a $1 trillion bipartisan bill to improve the country’s infrastructure and establish universal broadband access to high speed internet. This investment has created, and will continue to create, well-paying jobs. This ultimately grows our nation’s wealth, empowering more Americans to uplift and engage in the economy. If someone enters the telecommunications industry now, they will have consistent job security due to the rising demand for trained and certified telecommunication construction professionals.

National OnDemand continuously meets the demands of our industry through the dedication and efforts of our dedicated employees. We work across the U.S. to connect communities to the network services they need for daily success. We continue to empower homes and businesses with necessary services, one line, one pole, and one splice at a time. Broadband network growth is projected at years of development, not just months.

National OnDemand specializes in rural fiber infrastructure and hundreds of towns need our help. Our work not only provides a sustainable income to our employees, but it also helps people access life-changing services in communities across the country.

The Takeaway

Being a part of the Construction Division at National OnDemand contributes to a much larger system at work similar to that of an engine. Every part is vital to make it run. Just like an engine, our Construction Division powers National OnDemand with the drive necessary for us to continue to serve our communities by providing excellent results. The Construction Division also acts as a reflection of our ongoing investment in communities as we recruit and train people from the area for our projects.
