Network Decommissioning & Asset Recovery

At National OnDemand, our Network Decommissioning & Asset Recovery services address what remains after a network is modernized. As carriers retire legacy copper, overbuild aging plant with fiber, and consolidate facilities, the infrastructure left behind continues to occupy pole space, fill conduit, and carry attachment costs long after it has stopped carrying traffic.

Our clients need that plant removed safely, documented thoroughly, and converted into recoverable value rather than left sitting on their books as a liability. We recover retired cable using the same crews, equipment, and pole owner relationships that support our construction work, so removal can be sequenced alongside the new build rather than mobilized as a separate program. With a focus on safety, environmental compliance, and transparent reporting, National OnDemand helps our clients retire legacy infrastructure without losing its remaining value.

National OnDemand Cable Recovery

Cable Recovery

Retired cable rarely comes down on its own. Dead copper and abandoned facilities left on a pole line add load, crowd the communication space, and can delay the make ready work our clients need before new attachments go up. Our Cable Recovery services remove retired aerial and underground plant, including cable, strand, lashing wire, and attachment hardware, returning pole space and conduit capacity to productive use.

Our crews have been removing aerial plant for years, work the industry commonly calls wreck out, and they bring the bucket trucks, reel trailers, and traffic control that safe removal demands. Underground, we pull retired cable from existing conduit so that duct space can carry new fiber without the cost of fresh excavation. Every route is coordinated with pole owners and local authorities, and National OnDemand leaves our clients with a clear record of what was removed and where.

Copper Reclamation

Recovered copper holds real value, but only when it is handled with care from the moment it leaves the pole or conduit. Without disciplined tracking, our clients have little way to confirm how much material came off a route, where it went, or what it returned, and older cable types can carry environmental handling requirements that should never be left to chance. Our Copper Reclamation services manage that material through every step, from removal and staging to final disposition.

Our teams are reclaiming copper on large-scale programs across multiple states, working long rural routes where staging and transport planning matter as much as the removal itself. Recovered cable is weighed, documented, and processed through established reclamation channels, and our clients receive disposition records that account for every load. National OnDemand helps our clients recover the value in retired copper while meeting their environmental and reporting obligations.

National OnDemand Central Office Decommissioning

Central Office Decommissioning

As carriers migrate customers to fiber, central offices once built around copper switching are being consolidated or closed. What remains is mostly cable: thousands of pairs terminating on distribution frames, tie cables threaded through overhead racking, and high-count entrance cables running out to the vault. Removing it carries real risk, since live circuits often stay in service a few racks away, and one misidentified cable can take customers down.

We are prepared to bring the same discipline we apply in the field to central office decommissioning, from identifying and tagging retired cable to mining it from overhead racking, removing frames and racks, and pulling entrance cable from the vault. Each phase can be sequenced around active services with our clients' network operations teams, and recovered copper can follow the same reclamation channels we use outside. National OnDemand can help our clients reclaim facility space without putting live service at risk.
