Fiber Splicing & Testing

We provide expert fiber splicing and testing for new builds, network upgrades, and restoration projects, delivering the connections that turn installed cable into a working network. Our trained technicians work across aerial, underground, and inside plant environments, and they ensure every connection meets the strict performance standards our clients and their customers depend on.

A network is only as reliable as its weakest splice, and the margin for error keeps narrowing as fiber counts climb into the thousands and data center operators tighten their loss budgets and closeout requirements. We use advanced testing tools to confirm performance and quality, and every splice is tested for accuracy and reliability before our crews leave the site. From a single drop serving a home to the high-count cables feeding a data hall, National OnDemand gives our clients a network that performs as designed from the first day of service.

National OnDemand Fusion Splicing: ISP & OSP

Fusion Splicing: ISP & OSP

Fusion splicing joins fibers by melting them together, producing the low-loss connection that ensures optimal data transfer across a network. Our Fusion Splicing services cover outside plant, from aerial and underground enclosures to mid-sheath entries on existing routes, as well as inside plant, where cables terminate in central offices, data centers, and meet-me rooms. Every splice is mapped against our clients' fiber matrices so each strand reaches its intended destination.

  • Single-fiber fusion splicing
  • Aerial, underground, and mid-sheath splicing
  • Central office, data hall, and meet-me room splicing

In high-count environments, cables of 864 fibers and beyond can mean thousands of splice events, each one held to the limits our clients specify. Our technicians can adjust splice programs to the fiber type and coating diameter in use and maintain strand identification and traceability at every enclosure. As ribbon and mass fusion splicing become standard in these designs, we are ready to bring the same discipline to that work. National OnDemand delivers splices that hold up to the tightest loss budgets our clients set.

  • High-count cable splicing
  • Splice programs matched to fiber type
  • Strand identification and traceability

Termination & Connectorization

Every connector in a network is a point where light can be lost or reflected, and a single contaminated endface is one of the leading causes of link failure. Our Termination & Connectorization services complete the path between cable and equipment, including fiber termination on distribution panels, pigtail and splice-on connectors, and the patch fields that make a network accessible to our clients' operations teams.

  • Fiber termination and connectorization
  • Pigtail and splice-on connector installation
  • Patch panel and distribution frame termination

Inside the data center, connector density rises dramatically, with MPO trunks and very small form factor connectors such as CS, SN, and MDC supporting 400G and 800G transceivers. At that density, one dirty MPO endface can take down an entire link. Our technicians inspect and clean every endface before mating, verify polarity across each path, and label every connector so our clients know exactly what is installed and where. National OnDemand delivers terminations that are clean, traceable, and ready to light.

  • MPO/MTP and VSFF connectorization
  • Endface inspection and cleaning
  • Polarity verification and labeling
National OnDemand OTDR, Insertion Loss & Certification Testing

OTDR, Insertion Loss & Certification Testing

A splice that looks right in the enclosure still has to prove itself under test. Our testing services use OTDRs, optical loss test sets, and optical power meters to confirm continuity, measure insertion loss and optical return loss, and locate every splice and connector event along the span. We test each line to confirm it meets performance standards, so there are fewer problems later.

  • OTDR testing and event analysis
  • Insertion loss and optical return loss testing
  • Continuity and polarity verification

Data center acceptance raises the bar further. Each splice must fall within its per-event limit and each link must close within its total loss budget, typically verified through Tier 1 insertion loss testing and Tier 2 OTDR characterization, bidirectionally at 1310 nm and 1550 nm where specified. We document results in the formats our clients' Methods of Procedure require, because a sound splice with an incomplete record can still fail acceptance. National OnDemand delivers test results our clients can take straight to closeout.

  • Tier 1 and Tier 2 certification testing
  • Bidirectional testing at 1310 nm and 1550 nm
  • Complete documentation for quality control

Emergency Restoration Splicing

When a fiber cut takes a network down, splicing is where restoration actually happens, and every minute spent waiting on a qualified splicer extends the outage for our clients' customers. Our Emergency Restoration Splicing services put experienced technicians on site with mobile splicing trailers, fusion splicers, and test equipment, ready to locate the damage, prepare the cable, and restore service as quickly as conditions allow.

  • Emergency restoration and maintenance
  • Fusion and mechanical splicing
  • Mobile splicing trailers

Restoration often begins with our clients' highest-priority circuits, followed by a permanent repair once traffic is back in service. On high-count backbone routes carrying data center traffic, the work may involve in-service splicing on live fiber, where every step is planned within a maintenance window so active circuits stay undisturbed. Every restored fiber is tested and documented before our crews leave, keeping our clients' records accurate. National OnDemand restores service quickly and makes the repair last.

  • Priority circuit restoration
  • In-service splicing within maintenance windows
  • Post-restoration testing and documentation
National OnDemand CD/PMD & Fiber Characterization

CD/PMD & Fiber Characterization

At higher data rates, a fiber can pass loss testing and still fall short of carrying the traffic it was built for. Chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion spread optical pulses as they travel, limiting the speed and distance a link can support. Our CD/PMD & Fiber Characterization services measure these properties across long haul, middle mile, and metro routes, giving our clients the data they need before they commit to lighting new capacity.

  • Chromatic dispersion (CD) testing
  • Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) testing
  • Attenuation and ORL profiling

Characterization matters most on routes carrying the highest-value traffic, including metro interconnects between data center campuses, long haul spans supporting high-capacity DWDM transport, and older plant being evaluated for an upgrade. We deliver results and documentation that can serve as a baseline for the life of the route, so future maintenance teams may compare new readings against conditions at turn-up. National OnDemand helps our clients know exactly what their fiber can carry.

  • High-precision results for maximum uptime
  • Legacy route evaluation for upgrades
  • Baseline records for future maintenance
